okay, but not that accurate
| Having two temperature sensors allows us to determine how accurate this thing is, which it isn't, as they disagree by about 1.5-2 degrees F when set next to each other. The outdoor sensor on mine seems to be closest to reality, as it is very close to 32 when dropped in a glass of water filled with ice (close enough given variables like dissolved ions in the water, which are around 150ppm). The whole concept of this thing measuring temperature in tenths of a degree is pretty laughable, though, considering its lack of calibration.
Great otherwise; would have gotten 5 stars except for the inaccuracy of the indoor sensor.
Poorly Made | |
| I have had four of these devices. At heart they are a great idea. But if you don't want to hang it on the wall and wish to use the stand, you may have some problems.
Do not put this unit on a window ledge or anywhere else where the sun will fall on it regularly. The screens start to lose some of the display and they become useless. The one I have that has stayed out of the sun is still working. The other three did not make it a year before developing trouble. While working, these units did give accurate readings, but the durability of unit make it a poor buy unless you can keep the unit isolated.
Indoor outdoor temperatures - accurate and precise!
| I ordered mine and it arrived per USPS in about 3 days!
This is a replacement for a liquid indoor outdoor thermometer that died. Installation was easy - hung it on a screw on my kitchen door, routed the external sensor (on a generous 12 foot line secured by staples) by the door hinges - no wires show inside. Calibration:- internal and external agree and concur with a third liquid thermometer. I had been concerned by possible issues of accuracy - no problem there! And none with precision. In use, the controls are simple min/max toggles and reset. The display is easy to read across a room. And all for $10 in Dec 2004 - what value!
